The 2024 PFL 2 main card opener ended in unusual fashion after a fighter’s hand was mutilated on a takedown.
As Sadibou Sy planted his hand down on takedown from opponent Josh Silveira, gravity took its toll on his thumb, which bent awkwardly under the weight of his body. Sy (16-8-2) waved to referee Marc Goddard, as a confused Silveira (13-2) laid on top of him. The signal marked the end of the fight at 1:14 of Round 1.

It’s unclear what the exact medical diagnosis of Sy’s thumb is, though the broadcast speculated a dislocation. Sy was clearly frustrated by the result, as he vented his frustration with his thumb protruding awkwardly the entire time.
Regardless of circumstance, Silveira picked up six points in the light heavyweight season. He was the 2023 season’s runner-up after a loss to Impa Kasanganay in the light heavyweight finals.
Sy was the 2022 PFL welterweight champion and 2023 welterweight runner-up. He moved up two weight classes for the 2024 season.
