UFC on ESPN 55 post-event facts: Ryan Spann's struggles continue

The UFC closed out its April schedule on Saturday with UFC on ESPN 55, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

There were seven stoppage results on the card, but the most emphatic came in the main event when Alex Perez (24-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC) put himself back on the map as a flyweight contender with a second-round knockout of Matheus Nicolau (19-4-1 MMA, 7-3 UFC).

Event stats

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $175,000.

Debuting fighters went 2-1 at the event.

Perez, Bogdan Guskov, Jhonata Diniz and Uros Medic earned $55,000 UFC on ESPN 55 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 55, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 7-6 on the card.

Betting favorites fell to 8-6 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 13-bout card was 2:23:31.

Perez snapped his three-fight losing skid for his first victory since June 2020.

Perez has earned five of his seven UFC victories by stoppage.

Nicolau fell to 4-2 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in March 2021.

Nicolau fell to 6-3 since he dropped to the UFC flyweight division in July 2016.

Nicolau has suffered all four of his career losses by knockout.

Guskov (16-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has earned all 16 of his career victories by stoppage.

Ryan Spann’s (21-10 MMA, 7-5 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since November 2022.

Spann has suffered six of his nine career losses by stoppage. That includes four of his five UFC defeats.

Karine Silva def. Ariane da Silva

Karine Silva’s (18-4 MMA, 4-0 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak at women’s flyweight is the fourth-longest active streak in the division behind Manon Fiorot (seven), Maycee Barber (six) and Natalia Silva (five).

Silva earned the first decision victory of her career.

Ariane Da Silva (17-9 MMA, 6-6 UFC) has suffered three of her six UFC losses by decision.

Diniz (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all seven of his career victories by knockout.

Austen Lane (12-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered all five of his career losses by knockout.

David Onama (12-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) earned the first decision victory of his career.

Medic (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) improved to 2-1 since he moved up to the welterweight division in July 2023.

Medic has earned all 10 of his career victories by stoppage. He’s finished all four of his UFC wins by knockout.

Austin Hubbard (16-7 MMA, 4-5 UFC) has earned three of his four UFC victories by decision.

Michal Figlak (8-2 MMA, 0-2 uFC) has suffered consecutive losses after starting his career 8-0.

Figlak has suffered both of his career losses by decision.

James Llontop (14-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered two of his three career losses by stoppage.

Llontop has suffered both of his career stoppage losses by submission.

Na Liang’s (19-8 MMA, 0-4 UFC) four-fight losing skid is the longest of her career. She hasn’t earned a victory since January 2021.

Liang has suffered seven of her eight career losses by stoppage.
