Former UFC women’s bantamweight champ Miesha Tate has her next fight lined up.
Tate (20-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) will face Yana Santos at a UFC Fight Night event on May 3. The event is expected to take place in Des Moines, Iowa, although the location and venue has not yet been officially confirmed.
Monday, Tate announced the fight on Instagram, and Santos (15-8 MMA, 5-5 UFC) publicly acknowledged the matchup. The UFC has not yet officially announced the bout.
Tate, 38, was last in action on Dec. 2, 2023 at UFC on ESPN 52, where she dominated and ultimately submitted Julia Avila in the third round. The victory ended a two-fight skid for “Cupcake,” who has gone 2-2 since returning from retirement in 2021. Her return run includes a loss in one stop at flyweight, but Tate immediately returned to the division where she once became champion.
Santos, 35, will also after a skid-snapping victory in her last outing. At UFC on ESPN 61 on Aug. 10, 2024, she picked up a much needed unanimous decision win over Chelsea Chandler. Santos herself called the result “career saving” as it ended a three-fight skid stretching back to 2021, while also bringing her overall UFC record back to .500.
With the addition, the current UFC Fight Night event on May 3 includes:
- Yana Santos vs. Miesha Tate
- Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Daniel Rodriguez
- Gillian Robertson vs. Marina Rodriguez
- Jeong Yeong Lee vs. Trevor Peek
- Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman
