Justin Gaethje gets his hand raised after a win at UFC 313

Justin Gaethje has opened up on his retirement talks ahead of UFC 324.

Gaethje is set to headline UFC 324 on January 24 against Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight title. Heading into the fight, Gaethje is a +176 underdog while ‘The Baddy’ is a -230 favorite on FanDuel.

After his win over Rafael Fiziev, Gaethje’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, said his client would retire if he didn’t get a title shot. However, Gaethje said that was his manager talking as he believes he has a couple of fights left.

“No, but it’s not the beginning,” Gaethje said to TNT Sports about retirement. “I’m 37 years old. I’d be a fool to think that we’re just getting started here. The end is near. … I definitely got what I asked for. It was more my manager put me in that, I mean, I probably said it, but you know, we’re emotional beings and we’re petty.

“You don’t get to where I’m at or where these fighters are at without being petty. I take things personal and I thought I had earned something and so I was trying to stand up.”

As Gaethje mentioned, he’s 37 and has been in plenty of wars, so he’s in the final stages of his career.

Justin Gaethje is still hungry to win UFC belt

One of the things that is alluding Gaethje in his career is the undisputed belt. He’s won the interim title before, and winning it again will give him a chance to fight for the undisputed belt.

“Every single one of these is a traumatic life experience,” Gaethje said. “There’s no matching the high or the low of winning or losing this sport. It kind of ruined other parts of life, but no, I am so hungry and I’ve never felt more alive than when I go in there. I will miss it when it’s gone. I think I truly love it more than most.”

Gaethje enters UFC 324 with a record of 26-5 and is coming off a win over Fiziev.
