ONE Championship has added a world title fight to ONE Samurai 1 on April 29 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Jonathan “The General” Haggerty puts his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship on the line against surging Japanese challenger Yuki Yoza.

Haggerty is one of ONE Championship’s most decorated strikers. He claimed both bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing gold during his remarkable run in the promotion. The 29-year-old Brit has stoppages over Nong-O Hama and Fabricio Andrade among the highlights of his resume.

In his last outing at ONE 171, he dismantled the previously unbeaten Wei Rui with a dominant five-round unanimous decision, ending his challenger’s 21-fight winning streak with a striking clinic. He was slated to challenge Nabil Anane for the bantamweight Muay Thai throne at ONE 173 last November but had to withdraw due to injury. Now fully healthy, he faces the stiffest test of his kickboxing title reign.

Yuki Yoza earns shot at Jonathan Haggerty’s belt with stunning run

Yuki Yoza has been a wrecking ball since arriving in ONE Championship. The former K-1 Champion went through the division’s top competition with methodical efficiency. He defeated Elbrus Osmanov in his debut before knocking down and outpointing former bantamweight king Petchtanong Petchfergus in just his second promotional appearance.

He then delivered the performance that secured this title shot — a mesmerizing unanimous decision over flyweight kickboxing king Superlek at ONE 173 in Tokyo, overwhelming the Thai superstar with a nonstop barrage of kicks and punches. That result announced Yoza as a legitimate world title threat.

Now he gets the shot at Haggerty he has been targeting since before his ONE debut, with home crowd support at Ariake Arena adding another layer to an already electric matchup.
