– During today’s latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer had some more details on the post-WrestleMania plans for former Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey. As previously reported, Rousey appears to be dealing with a severe broken hand injury, and it looks like she might be off of WWE for quite a while.
According to Meltzer, the finish at WrestleMania 35, which was botched due to Rousey’s shoulders not being on the mat for three, was a way to set up a future rematch between Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch later down the line. There were conflicting reports online that WWE had originally planned a different finish for the WrestleMania 35 main event, but Meltzer is saying that’s not the case.
Regarding Rousey’s future in WWE, Meltzer stated, “The finish of that match, among other things, is for the hope that there’s a Ronda Rousey/Becky Lynch match.” He also noted that Lynch still referenced Rousey in her promo on last night’s Raw, leaving it open for the feud to continue if and when Rousey returns to WWE at some point.
Sports Illustrated published its own report this week on the botched main event finish. The SI report claims “multiple sources close to WWE” are stating that the controversial finish happened as planned.
