We reported yesterday that Mustafa Ali was pulled from the Elimination Chamber match this Sunday due to an injured tailbone and an eye injury, with WWE opting to play it safe and not let him compete. However, in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (via Ringside News, Dave Meltzer said that Ali actually suffered a concussion at a live event in Fort Wayne, and whether or not he’s cleared for tonight’s Smackdown will determine if he’s cleared for Sunday’s PPV event.
Meltzer said: “So Mustafa Ali suffered a concussion on the show in Fort Wayne. So thats the deal with Mustafa Ali so in theory unless he gets cleared on Tuesday because its a concussion and you never know, in theory, if he doesnt get cleared on Tuesday they will be forced to [pull him from the EC match] you cant just risk the idea that hes going to be okay by Sunday. Plus, theyre gonna do this gauntlet match with everyone so they need to plug someone in.”
Meanwhile, if Ali is not cleared, then Meltzer added that one of two people would be called upon to fill his spot in the match. He added: “Rey Mysterio and Andrade would possibly be your leading candidates for that spot.”
He noted that Shinsuke Nakamura or Rusev could also be selected, but stressed that it appeared they were more likely for a triple threat match for R-Truth’s US title.
