– Eric Bischoff doesn’t think that Impact Wrestling’s partnership with AAA will mean much in the long term. Bischoff discussed the news on the latest episode of his Bischoff on Wrestling podcast and said that with neither company making much money, it’s not going to make a difference in anything for either promotion.
“Im just having such a hard time unpacking the meaning or the relevance of that story,” he said. “First of all, I love Lucha Underground, I watch it and I dig it as a television product. It gets no ratings. Its making no money. It has no live event market. To my knowledge they dont have any licensing or merchandising. Its just content. Its very expensive content and its cool as hell, dont get me wrong. Its cool content but there is no money in it. The fact that the athletes that portray the characters on a show that doesnt make any money have the privilege of working on another show that doesnt make any money and they cant even be the characters that arent making money on another network to me it just seems kind of irrelevant. It doest matter.”
He continued, “Impact doesnt make any money. They make zero money in television and licensing fees. They basically give their show away to Pop TV. Its like an infomercial hoping that they are going to find another way to make revenue. They dont have live events, they dont have merchandising and they wont be making any money from YouTube as of now. So, what the hell difference does it make? Why is this a headline? A bunch of guys from Mexico get the privilege of working for a company that doesnt pay anybody any money for an opportunity to not make any money? Eh, good for everybody. Im happy theyre all happy. Its great headlines. Great perception. If you can make a living off creating cheap headlines that dont really matter good for you. At the end of the day its a non-issue issue.”
