Bellator 192 medical suspensions: Rory MacDonald potentially out six months

Rory MacDonald is facing a potentially lengthy suspension.

The new Bellator welterweight champion sustained a gruesome leg injury in his fight with Douglas Lima in the co-main event of Bellator 192 on Saturday night in Inglewood, Calif. And hell be medically suspended 180 days unless a doctor clears him due to the bad leg, per a document obtained by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

CSAC doctors determined that MacDonald might have broken his right hand and right lower leg. MacDonald can return before that if cleared by a physician, but he also was hit with a 45-day no contest (30-day no contact) mandatory suspension from the commission for medical reasons.

MacDonald beat Lima by unanimous decision in a gutty performance to win the Bellator welterweight belt. Red King told Ariel Helwani on Mondays edition of The MMA Hour that the leg injury was just a hematoma and he had no structural damage there or anywhere else. So the six-month suspension might not end up sticking.

Lima was also suspended medically after the grinding fight. The Brazilian striker was hit with a 60-day ban due to a laceration on his right eyebrow, but he can come back earlier if cleared by a doctor. Lima, like MacoDonald, was medically suspended 45 days (30 days no contact) due to the hard nature of the fight.

Also from the main card at Bellator 192, Shane Kruchten and Georgi Karakhanyan are facing 180-day medical suspensions from the commission. Kruchten might have broken his right foot and right second toe, while Karakhanyan might have fractured his right hand.

Both can come back earlier if cleared by physicians. Kruchten has a 45-day no contest (30-day no contact) suspension due to being knocked out by Aaron Pico. Karakhanyan has another 60-day suspension due to a cut to his right eyebrow, but can get cleared by a doctor after a seven-day mandatory suspension.
