After being released from his contract last year following a rocky three fight patch in which the TUF season 8, winner dropped two of three bouts, Efrain Escudero (18-3) will once again enter the octagon. The MMA Lab representative has verbally agreed to replace the injured T.J. Grant, who was originally tapped to collide with Jacob Volkmann (13-2) at UFC 141.
A collision between Volkmann and Escudero represents an interesting style clash, as both men possess potent wrestling abilities, which could conceivably lead to a stand up battle; an area in which Escudero is markedly superior.
Escudero has compiled a 5-1 record since his initial release from the promotion. Four of those five victories have all fallen within the calendar year.
Volkmann in contrast has compiled a 4-2 record since his 2009 promotional debut, which he made at welterweight. Since dropping to lightweight Jacob has gone unbeaten, and holds wins over noteworthy foes, Paul Kelly, Antonio McKee and Danny Castillo.
UFC 141 takes place on December 30; the action emanates from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
