Three years distanced from their initial encounter, Frank Mir (15-5) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-6-1-1) will once again collide in a pivotal heavyweight match scheduled for UFC 140.
The two first tangled at UFC 92, where Mir shocked the world by completely dominating “Big Nog” en route to a convincing second round technical knockout. It was the first time in Nogueira’s storied career that he’s been stopped on strikes.
Since that bout the Brazilian’s career has seen its ups and downs. The former interim champion has undergone numerous surgeries to repair a multitude of lingering injuries, been toppled by current champion Cain Velasquez, only to rebound with a brutal knockout over young prospect Brendan Schaub at UFC 134.
Mir on the other hand has pieced together a 3-2 record since their meeting, falling at the hands of Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar, while stopping Mirko Crocop and Cheick Kongo before decisioning the durable Roy Nelson at UFC 130.
UFC 140 is scheduled for December 10th, and takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
