I stumbled upon this gem on the Brazilian site, oglobo.globo.com. Though the article reads in Portuguese, extreme curiosity led me to have this little tidbit translated, as I think just about any fan of the now defunct Pride Fighting Championships is chomping at the bit, wondering where the hell this animal has been.
Check out some quotes from Arona, who sounds like he’s definitely eager to return to combat (and note that these are indeed translations).
“I went back to prepare me physically. A finishing a Training Center that doing in my house (in Niterói). IT IS very large and complete. I Want To come back at the beginning of next year. In the beginning i want to be ready to compete in any thing, God willing. My goal is that, without a doubt.â€
When discussing a potential promotion for which he could compete he made some interesting statements, “Already receive invitation of Depleted Strikeforce and several national events, but not closed nothing. I am waiting for being ready to return.†Could Strikeforce be a legitimate option for the talented Brazilian? Unlikely, but I’d tune in!
On his training regimen:
“My Training Center ta almost OK. It has a tatami immense. Gun crate, training room functional room, gym, physiotherapy. The parade and great. I conclude that there in no more than two more months and then with three months of training i am ready for everything.â€
Arona is sounding like a man who has dedicated his time and energies in a return to action. Considering his past accomplishments, it’s difficult to imagine a high profile organization signing the talent… Bellator anyone?
