Thiago Alves (18-8) will experience what many consider a step down in competition when he welcomes unbeaten promotional neophyte, Papy Abedi to the octagon at UFC 138.
Alves, who has long been considered a top contender to champion, Georges St. Pierre’s title, has experienced a recent rough patch. In his last four outings, Alves has looked uninspired in amassing a 1-3 record. The talented Brazilian last saw action at UFC 130, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Rick Story.
Swedish import, Papy Abedi enters the UFC fold with an impressive 8-0 record. While he’s yet to face anyone as dangerous as Alves, Abedi brings with him a strong striking pedigree. He’s managed to finish seven of his eight opponents by way of knockout, technical knockout or submission.
UFC 138 is headlined by a non-title five round bout between talented middleweights Chris Leben and Mark Munoz, and takes place on November 5th at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The event will air via taped delay on Spike TV.
