Rampage Talks Matt Hamil, Retiring In Two Years At 35
Rampage Jackson will headline UFC 130 on May 28th when he takes on Matt Hamil in the main event and talked this week to ESPN UK about Hamil as well as his plan to retire from the sport in two years, when he hits the age of 35:
"If Matt Hamill thinks I_ll take him lightly, he_s mistaken this time. My coach won_t let me take my opponents lightly. I like to finish people. I want a devastating finish."
"I_m a fighter in the true sense of the words Ultimate Fighter. I have the fighter_s spirit, and I_m not afraid to do anything. I_m not afraid to fight anybody."
"I_m gonna try to do to Matt Hamill what I try to do to all my opponents: Whoop his ass. There_s not one doubt in my mind that I can whoop Matt Hamill."
"I don_t care either way. It doesn_t bother me. It doesn_t change the outcome of the fight or the way I train or anything," he told the ESPN UFC Podcast.
"I_ve always said I_ll retire when I_m 35. I don_t want to fight past 35. There are young guys coming in and doing good. I_ve been fighting for a long time and it_s no secret that I don_t fight the same way I used to.
"I_ve got a lot of injuries, one or two things that bother me. But when I_m fighting, the injuries don_t bother me, it_s the training that gets old. Going through each camp I go through all these pains and think, _Man I don_t want to do this anymore_. But after the fight I say, _OK, I_ll give it one more_. So who knows?
