UFC Castaways Jeremy May, Dave Branch Meet At Shark Fights 15

Texas based fight promotion Shark Fights will host their 15th event from the Santa Ana Star Center, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The event is headlined by an interesting middleweight bout pitting former UFC prospect Chris Camozzi (14-4) against the very experienced and longtime fan favorite, Joey Villasenor (27-8). In addition to a compelling headliner, Shark Fights just announced an addition middleweight bout tapped for the event, as “The Ultimate Fighter†season 7 competitor Jeremy May (who never actually appeared on an official UFC card, despite gaining infamy on “TUFâ€) will lock horns with the recently released Dave Branch (8-2).
May, who sports a record of 9-7, and one of the sports worst nicknames (“BAMFâ€, and yes, you can probably guess what that stands for), will look to piece together his third consecutive win. The brash Floridian has won four of his last five fights, including a first round submission victory over “TUF†season 9 competitor Frank Lester.
Branch, who was surprisingly released by the UFC following a second round submission loss to Rousimar Palhares at UFC Live 3, will be looking to put himself back in the win column. Branch debuted for the UFC as an undefeated prospect; after accumulating a 2-2 record for the promotion (with victories over Rich Attonito and Tomasz Drwal) he was abruptly sent packing.
While a win here isn’t likely to earn either man another call from UFC brass, it will certainly determine who the more promising fighter is. For Branch (who_s been a somewhat underappreciated commodity), it’s one step closer to a return to the Zuffa owned promotion; for May, it’s a chance at defeating a second UFC veteran.
