Japanese star, and number four (according to our rankings here at MMANEWS!) ranked featherweight Hatsu Hioki has officially signed a contract with the UFC. The promotion announced the news via twitter.
Hioki brings a stellar professional record of 24-4-2 to U.S. soil, and will have the chance to stake his claim as a top five featherweight amongst the division’s deepest talent pool.
The Sengoku Raiden Championship featherweight titleholder and Shooto lightweight champion has secured 16 of his 24 victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, and hasn’t dropped a fight since 2009. Rather, he’s pieced together an impressive four fight winning streak that includes decision victories over highly respected talent, Takeshi Inoue and Marlon Sandro.
In general, Hioki is considered a top-flight featherweight, and could conceivably earn a shot at champion Jose Aldo’s belt with a single UFC win.
