Following an impressive submission victory over former IFL standout Chris Horodecki at WEC 53, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone issued a surprising challenge.
“Cole Miller is the guy I’m chasing down,” states Cerrone. “That's the fight I want. It's a fight I've wanted since as long as I can remember.”
It may seem a bit strange to hear Cerrone calling out Miller, as any “bad blood” between these two hasn’t been overtly evident in the past. Cerrone however, has his reasoning for wanting the fight.
"He beat Leonard Garcia about three-and-a-half years ago (at UFC Fight Night 11)," stated Cerrone. "I was there. I was the young one there and had only had about five fights. I remember Cole was kind of – well, I was like, 'Alright, mother [expletive], I got you.'”
Three years is a long time to hold a grudge, but I’ll be the last to argue this match-up. Both men are rangy lightweights with dynamic submission games. While Cerrone may be the technically superior striker, Miller’s been through some exciting wars with elite competition, and he’s no easy shell to crack.
Here’s hoping the UFC makes this match a reality and gives Cerrone a chance to avenge his teammate's loss.
