UFC welterweight Rory Markham is trading in the gloves and blood for the lights and cameras. MMAjunkie.com first broke the news of Markham’s planned profession switch.
Apparently Markham just wrapped up his first major acting gig, a stint in the upcoming film “Setup”, in which he’ll star alongside none other than Bruce Willis, 50 Cent, Ryan Phillipe and a man familiar with juggling fighting and acting, Randy Couture.
Markham also recently had a part in the Adrien Brody and Forrest Whitaker driven “The Experiment”, which headed to DVD in August.
It seems this Markham is enjoying himself in front of the cameras, “It gives us a chance to explore," Rory told MMAjunkie. "You don't really get to explore when you're an MMA fighter. You do your work, and then you get to explore one night in a fight."
While Markham is definitely enjoying his current acting wave, he hasn’t forgotten his roots though it seems evident he’ll travel both career paths in the future, “I know that I'm a fighter first," Markham said. "But I know that my career and my destiny is definitely going to end up in that realm."
Fight fans can rest assured however, Markham, who hasn’t fought in nearly a year, is hoping to book a fight in late March, or early April. We’ll just have to see if the time away from the cage and in-front of the cameras has had any effect on his in-cage performance, an issue “Rampage” Jackson recently faced himself.
