Strikeforce Challengers 14 will get underway February 18th at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas. Headlining the event will be a lightweight clash between Lyle Beerbohm and longtime veteran Pat Healy.
Also set to see action is Ryan Couture (1-0), who hasn’t competed since August of last year when he defeated Lucas Stark by triangle choke early in the first round. Couture will match wits and fists with fellow MMA neophyte Lee Higgins (2-0).
As some may know, Couture was originally slated to fight on the strikeforce Challengers 12 card before a staph infection forced the lightweight to withdraw from the bout.
As an amateur Couture amassed a solid 4-1 record; should he continue to shine on the Strikeforce Challenger circuit, he may well make his way to strikeforce’s more illustrious “main events” soon.
Being the son of legendary UFC hall of famer Randy Couture should only help his career excel much faster, assuming he continues to find victory inside the cage. Make no mistake however, with only one bout under his belt, he’s got a ways to go.
Lee Higgins, Couture’s opponent has stopped both of his foes in the first round by submission.
