LAS VEGAS – Ahead of the UFC’s return to its home base in Las Vegas for the UFC 170 pay-per-view, MMAjunkie takes a look at the two bouts on the top of the bill.
MMAjunkie/USA TODAY lead staff reporter John Morgan and assistant editor Matt Erickson examine the women’s bantamweight title fight main event and the light heavyweight co-feature. Both fights feature heavy favorites, and both veteran journalists are siding with the oddsmakers.
Women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) takes on fellow Olympic medalist Sara McMann (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the main event. Rousey is as much as a 5-to-1 favorite in the fight. And in the co-main event, a grudge match has quickly started on just 10 days’ notice between Daniel Cormier (13-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Patrick Cummins (4-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), one of the wrestlers who helped prepare him for the 2004 Olympics. Cormier is as high as a 16-to-1 favorite at some online sports books in the fight.
