Video: Daniel Cormier shoves Patrick Cummins at UFC 170 news conference
LAS VEGAS – Things got heated between Daniel Cormier and Patrick Cummins on Thursday in Las Vegas.
Following the pre-fight news conference for UFC 170, the former training partners met for a faceoff on the stage. And before UFC President Dana White could react, Cormier delivered a big shove to Cummins’ chest. White got in between the two to make sure things didn’t escalate further.
“I wasn’t expecting it. It caught me off guard,” White told media members immediately after. “Honestly, I think he’s really upset that (Cummins) said the things that he said. He said he made him cry. I don’t care who you are. No one wants to hear that.”
Cummins was one of the fighters helping Cormier prepare for the 2004 Olympics. And the story he told after he accepted the fight with Cormier just this past week when Rashad Evans fell off is that he “broke” Cormier and made him cry.
Cormier didn’t deny the crying thing in subsequent interviews, but he certainly took exception to Cummins telling tales to the media outside of the training room, and without full context.
And that exception led to Thursday’s shove. Check out the altercation in the video above. Then don’t miss UFC 170, which takes place Saturday at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view.
