Today’s Cage Warriors Fight Night 10 event featured a string of stoppage victories. Perhaps none, however, was more impressive than the one in the middleweight headliner. Abu Azaitar (9-2), the clear crowd favorite, wasted little time winging punches at fellow Cage Warriors newcomer Jack Marshman (14-5), and just 34 seconds into the five, the Moroccan-German fighter’s barrage of blows forced a TKO stoppage.
Cage Warriors Fight Night 10 took place Friday at King Hussein Youth City Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan. The main card streamed on MMAjunkie following prelims on Facebook.
Both fighters came out swinging in the event’s headliner, but Azaitar lowered his head and threw a quick of barrage of blows while pushing forward. A crisp left dropped Marshman, and Azaitar immediately pounced with a series of follow-up blows.
Marshman was obviously dazed, and Azaitar’s assault quickly forced the referee’s intervention.
“I am very happy,” the fighter said after the performance, which marked his fourth straight knockout win. “I prepared for a strong guy, a very strong puncher.”
Pekov taps Cullen in first round In the day’s bantamweight co-headliner, Marat Pekov made relatively quick work of John Cullen.
After countering punches with takedown attempts and clinches against the cage, Pekov finally got his opening late in the round. After forcing the fight to the mat, Pekov isolated an arm and positioned himself for the armbar. Cullen initially defended it, but once Pekov rolled and got to a seated position, he tightened his grip and extended his opponent’s arm to force a tap-out.
The stoppage came at the 3:45 mark of the opening round.
Pekov (11-5) snapped a two-fight skid and picked up his first Cage Warriors victory with the performance. With the loss in his promotional debut, Cullen (17-8-2) has now lost three of his past four bouts.
Merad wins via injury, Lasota and Booth dazzle In often-thrilling light-heavyweight action and after two back-and-forth rounds, which saw both fighters firing off submission attempts (including dueling heel hooks), a bout between Mohamed Ali (9-7) and Malik Merad (18-11) came to an unfortunate end. Just nine seconds into the final frame, Ali was forced to verbally submit due to an apparent eye injury that resulted from a Merad elbow strike. The bout proved exceptionally competitive and entertaining before the disappointing end. In a striking-heavy affair, Norman Paraisy (14-3-2) shut out fellow middleweight Allan Love (11-5) and earned a unanimous-decision victory. Paraisy wore down his opponent with leg kicks, and despite some trips to the mat in the third round, he continued doing damage from top position with punches to the head and body – before narrowly avoiding some late-fight armbar and rear-naked-choke attempts from Love. The fight-long dominance carried him to a victory via 30-27 scores. In flyweight action, Marcin Lasota pulled off a remarkable win over Paul Marin. Despite being on his back and eating a number of brutal punches from his standing opponent, Lasota (8-0) remained composed and locked up a combination armbar/triangle choke during one of the big blows. After repositioning himself and tightening his grip, he ultimately forced a tap-out from Marin (7-4) at the 3:02 mark of the opening round. Although Jarrah Al-Silawi‘s cage entrance was met with a huge outburst of applause, Carl Booth quickly silenced the crowd just 31 seconds into the fight. In a clash of first-time pros, English fighter Booth (1-0) demolished Jordanian welterweight Al-Silawi (0-1) with a perfectly placed right hand, which brought about the quick stoppage.
